Giving an idea to improve the classrooms
Hello People! First of all, I want to apologise because I'm not an English native speaker and maybe I can't express my idea very well. I was thinking that It would be really useful to add a kind of 'profile' (Here, I'm suggesting that design could be similar to this one) to classrooms. I mean that it would be really productive for students to have a space where you can share information with them, answer their questions, clarify certain topics which have common difficulties, etc.
Hi People, I started with a classroom very recently and I noticed that there is no way for the students to interact between them :( It could be great if they can share their knowledge, ask questions and get answers, etc... Or... Is there a way to do this ? (Maybe I just don't know it...)
There isn't, no. The Duolingo for Schools system exists to allow teachers to track their students' use of Duolingo, and to set them assignments. You'd need to find another system to allow them to communicate - your schools VLE would be the ideal place, if that's an option.
Let me re-phrase my question :) => How could we have in Duolingo a way to allow studenst interact between them?
If you mean interacting with the whole of the Duolingo community, they can use the forums. The forum page for each specific sentence is useful - usually whatever question I have has already been answered.
If you mean interacting with other members of your class, then as I say you'll need some other solution.
Hi hughcparker. I do get your point, however, I was not talking about what Duolingo was 'designed to do' or not to do (users just don't care about that), I was talking about what people need. Some students where not even sure about the fact of being within the virtual classroom or not. Indeed, from the teacher's point of view there are quite some tools, I like that! However from the student point of view, Dolingo is (for the moment) quite quite limited. Maybe this is not the best place for this topic. Nor you nor me can solve this. I'll get in touch with Diolingo Team :)
Sure. You're right, those features can be a useful part of the learning process. I wasn't just saying that Duolingo hasn't implemented them yet, though. I think that Duolingo isn't the place for those features. I think (and the Duolingo team seem to agree) that Duolingo should stick to what it's good at, the language teaching, and leave the rest to other sites. VLEs exist, and Moodle, which seems to be regarded as the best of the bunch, is free. Why re-invent the wheel?
That's not what Duolingo's schools system is designed for. It's just designed to let you see your students' progress, and to set them assignments. If you want to have a space for your students to share ideas, post questions, etc, then you probably need to use your school's VLE.
Well I understand that, but what i'm suggesting is including VLE to Duolingo in order to unify both systems. If that is possible you wouldn't need to use many internet pages to teach but one, that would be Duolingo. I ignore if doing this can carry bad consequences.
I don't think it would have any bad consequences, but it would be a lot of work for the Duolingo staff, just to make tools that already exist elsewhere. Why not just let each system do what it's good at?
