Would it be acceptable to say "These train stations are not large?" or is there a differentiation in Hungarian between large and big?

No, it's correct as well.

[EDIT] -- oops, I missed what Cat.e.rina noted: these can't be used here. But "big" and "large" are both nagy.

Just for info and I work with MÁV. A "pályaudvar" is by definition a big or main station, that is how they use the word. For example, Keleti, Déli and Nyugati are Pályaudvarok. The medium or small sized ones are "vasútállómas" so really this is the word that should be used in this sentence if we are, saying they are not big.

Why do you use 'pályaudvarok' and not 'vasútállomás'?

"Azok a vasútállomások nem nagyok." is also accepted.

please tell me why "those are not big railway stations" is not acceptable? Thanks

These are two different sentences in Hungarian.

Those are not big train stations. = Azok nem nagy pályaudvarok.

Those train stations are not big. = Azok a pályaudvarok nem nagyok.
