Just since a few days ago, when I've been doing Duolingo, the sound in the lessons isn't working so I can't pass any lessons because I don't know what to type when there is a "listen and type" step. Is this happening to anyone else or is it just my computer?
Same thing for me since the switch to the new interface. All sounds are working except the most important one: the one of the exercise where we have to write what we hear!
Is someone looking into this? It really hinders my learning experience. I don't want to be rude, but so far the only thing we got is "no issues here", and I understand things need time to be looked into, but at least some info about if this issue is investigated or am I supposed to try and solve it on my own would be welcome. Big thanks.
I'm having the same problem. It seems to be related to the picture-type questions. If I get one of those, the foreign language sounds turn off.
I'm having the same problem with intermittent loss of sound. I am running Windows Vista and I recently updated the flash player. Could there be a connection?
I have a similar problem, usually the sound works but then it'll just stop for ages and I'll fail the lesson because of it . . . not really ideal.
Mine worked one time, and then it stopped for no reason. I just changed the settings so I don't have to do those listening questions.
Well it does not look like anyone is looking into it or even bothering. No responses here, I have tried to contact the support individually and also no response. Shame. I had to turn off the sound and now I am only getting half the education... it's been over a month...
I don't have that problem as frequently as I used to but it still happens off and on and I don't know why. But I think it might have something to do with my computer. It's pretty bad.
me too!!system cannot recognize my sound so that I cannot pass the course
I was about to report this as a problem. This has been driving me crazy, because I'll be going along happily typing my solutions and getting them right (or wrong), and then suddenly I'm stuck, as if my speakers died RIGHT at the moment I needed them the most. Occasionally I'll guess and type something random as a response, but that doesn't usually work.
I don't want to turn off the speakers option, because I only run into that problem about 20% of the time, and I like to listen to the audio the rest of the time.
I use Windows 8 and Chrome.
agreeeeeed(( I'm trying to resolve this problem by switching browsers, changing their settings (including about:config in firefox), but all my tricks don't work(((
i'm not sure if this is a permanent solution but i just did it and it works (for now). I went to the settings turned the speaker, voice autoplay and sound effects off, and then turned them on again. hopefully this works for you and continues to work for me.
Sorry, I can't help you, but try posting this in the troubleshooting discussion section.
I am having the same problem, checked everything, all works, even the duolingo "sound effects" play, just not the sound of the french class that I need to hear.
I am having the same problem. The sound was working yesterday and I have no problem getting sound in Itunes. Now I have no sound on the French lessons.
Yes, i sometimes get sound on my ipad and sometimes not. It is affecting other apps' sound as well.
Tech support says to update foash but ipads don't do adobe clask...not sure why it is being profiled from the Apple Store.
Me three. Sound works fine across the board except on "Type what you hear" Buttons don't work either. Chrome with AdBlock. AdBlock disabled for all duolingo domains
I am stucked too, but this problem comes up only on my office pc. Fortunately not in the one I usually practice on (my personal one), has anyone found out a solution?
me too if anyone had a solution please post it but i think that this problem comes with the pc becuase i have no problem on my laptop
Having the exact same problem here. No sound on the pictures. Very troublesome.
Hi cbatt, it's happening to me! I have been using duoling for months now. Decided to add German to my languages about a week ago and now (from today!!!) I can't hear the "listen and type" step and also I can't see the images in an image question.....CRAZY!! Very frustrated
I am having the same problem and had even opened an different account and it did not make any difference. I have written them now like five times and they have done nothing .The whole thing is pretty pointless with out the sound!!
Same problem here. Everything was okay until I updated Flash Player it seems...
I'm using duo lingo on my iPod (5th gen with ios7) and I have an issue too. With any of the listen and type, the volume is about the sound of the lowest possible system volume. It goes to regular volume as long as I just adjust the volume manually but it goes back to quiet volume at the next question. This glitch or whatever it is is getting extremely annoying to work with.
Similar problem... All other sound works fine on my iPad, but Duolingo's sound is not playing. However, when I spoke an English translation into it, Duolingo 'heard' it and accepted it as correct, so apparently the problem is in playing any sound, whether questions to be answered or sound effects. It worked fine a week ago. Disappointing to see no response to many weeks of comments and requests for assistance.... All suggestions cheerfully received.
I go all the way out of it and come back in and most times sound is restored. not a very good solution but might be good for the short term until they get it fixed
Well i had the same problem, no audio on chrome browser, what i did was to make sure i had the latest update on chrome. Therefore closed the the browser to the core (task manager force killed it) then tried again, didnt work.
Then, went and just googled "flash" the adobe website for flash came up and well, here its the trick, even thou it says that ur browser should have the latest version, sometimes simply it just doesnt, for xyz reason.
Solution, just click download last flash player, once downloaded, open the folder where its at, then force close the browsers ( all ) and then install the flash player. After this open up your fav browser and duolingo should work like a charm!!
BTW, make sure u just have ur speakear on a 2.1 or stereo setting, this site will not work on a 5.1 or 7.1 well thats what my mother board couldnt handle... so not sure if the site, the browser or the pc itself. cheers.
Thanks - changing my setting to stereo instead of 7.1 is what fixed it. Thank you!
yeah, i got a new laptop and the sound does not work. It works on youtube and any other websites I've tried but duolingo does not work on either firefox or chrome.
Yes, on my IPad. It works on my phone. Went to settings and Duolingo to look for sound options to fix problem, but no success.
This is happening again with me. I get sound on some questions/activities but not all. And I do not get any of the "hooray" congrats type sound effects when finishing a lesson or leveling up. I've tried toggling sounds on and off, clearing cookies, signing out and back in, and nothing has worked.
I'm also experiencing this problem - most frustrating when I'm doing a test!
Le pasa a mi también. Funciona en Mozilla, pero no en Chrome...por favor hacer el problema... It happens to me too..audio works in Mozilla, but doesn't in Chrome, please fix this..
Go to sound settings on your computer and make sure your speaker set up is correctly configured.
For example, I had no voices on duolingo, my speakers were set to 7.1 surround sound, I don't have surround sound, i have 2 speakers only so i set it to 2.1 Stereo and now voices work.
No sound on my iPhone. I have been using the app for 120 days. Run stopped was asked to pay £7.99 to continue with my run. However I can't as no sound.
I solved it this way.....if you are using the android app...go to settings, about phone, system update, and update it......
I found ad block plus was stopping sound elements. I disabled block for duolingo and now it works.
The sound you hear when you complete a lesson is gone. Other sounds are gone. Some areas are covered up. What's happening?
Yes, this is happening to me too. It is messed up. I tried restarting my computer and playing with the sound on duolingo but nothing is working. What do I do?!? Also this is on Chrome. Should I try a new browser?
sorry to hear that I am using Duolingo through Google Chrome and the sound is fine good luck I hate it when the computer decides to have a mind of its own!
No sound at all across two computers - Chrome browser, Windows 10. Turned off Adblock, cleared cookies etc. all settings correct. Sound works fine on other websites.
It is happening to my husband. When he is to type what he hears the voice is a static sound and can not be understood. Sooooo frustrating because this happens near the end of a lesson so he can’t complete the lesson. He does get credit and can’t move on. Does anyone have a solution?
