It looks great, very modern. But they really need to update that video that's staring at you when you log on. It's looks extremely dated and might turn people off before they even start, thinking it's some weird language that only old nerds know, which isn't true, lol
Did that video ever NOT look dated? I can't figure out what's dated about it - other than the reel tapes, which were probably old when the film was made.
Haha, just the whole thing looks like a low-quality home video from 1995. Considering all the effort that went into the website, you'd think they could make a new one. There are esperanto conventions all the time all across the world-- they should show young people conversing, adults, old people, different ethnicities... Show that no matter who you are, you'll be accepted by the community, and that it still exists.
Kie estas la vortaro?
Gxi estas tre profesia verzio. Mi sxatas cxi tiun. Duolingo havas nun veran konkuranton. Gxi estas bona por la lingvo, ambaux (Duolingo, kaj Lernu) havas bonan estontecon.
Now that we've gotten a look at the new lessons...
To teach children (early elementary level) Esperanto, which is the better course, Lernu or Duo?
Early elementary .... so 5 - 8 years old? I can tell you that my 11 year old got bored with Duolingo, even though he enjoys Esperanto. I'll be checking out the other options.
Yup, there's a 6 year old I'm hoping will show some interest in learning a 2nd language. Please let us know what you find out!
Cxu ekzistas la vojo krei reton por lerni Esperanton per ludoj? Estus ege utila por tiuj junuloj.
It looks fantastic but I think it needs time to settle in... or perhaps I do. I tried the first exercise with regard to the alphabet and it doesn't recognise gx as ĝ for example. There is a sort of keyboard link but it doesn't seem to do anything... I would appreciate some guidance if anyone has figured it out.
You click that x-^ thing on the top to activate it, and then you type. It worked for me on my computer (Windows) and my phone (Android)
On my phone I turned on the google keyboard option for Esperanto and can now toggle between English and Esperanto. On the website I can use the alt+2 with no problems, it doesn't work on my phone, so it is nice to have found a workaround there.
Ili estas en la "Media Library", kun aliaj aferoj. Bedaŭrinde, ili ne plu estas interaga(aŭ interagema?).
Well it annoys me a little bit, that I was halfway through the beginner course when the new site came, and I can't access the old course anymore. The new beginner course doesn't teach the concepts in the same order, som I can't just find a place to continue from. Besides this, I can't just skip chapters in "La teorio Nakamura" where I know everything. In addition, I can't download the audio files of single sentences anymore as I could witht he old course. I used those files for my Anki deck. However, I get a nice new story told as I get forced through, so it ain't only sulky stuff to get through. This frustration will end, when I'm through the course, and overall, I really think the new site is awesome.
When I was starting out, I took every course I could find. Repeating topics and seeing them a different way will never hurt.
This is what I'm doing, which is why I'm kind of sad to see the old Lernu go. I had worked through all the basic courses and taken the beginner exam, and was working through the intermediate courses and towards the intermediate exam. It's mildly irritating that there's only one interactive course now, I was using the courses and exams as a bit of a framework for my study.
Oh well, the new site does look really great, so I'll get over it. :)
It looks like we lost the online dictionary http://lernu.net/cgi-bin/vortaro.pl due to the relaunch.
Does anybody know if it has a new address?
