I wrote this: The English reporter is not standing, whereas he is walking. Why it is not good?

whereas is much closer to pedig, than hanem. You can say, the English reporter is not standing, whereas the American one is.

Is journalist a legitimate alternative?

Journalist is "újságíró" (newspaper writer literally). It is a good alternative, but not the exactly same word.

Would "The English reporter doesn't stand, but he walks" be correct as well?
