Why not "le lait"? As in, "We drink the milk."?

As you said "Nous buvons le lait" = "We drink the milk" whereas "Nous buvons du lait" = "We drink milk"

They are different sentences in both languages, so this question is asking about translation of the the second sentence, which means the first sentence is wrong.

"Nous buvons du lait" would translate to "we are drinking some milk". "Nous buvons le lait" is a much closer translation. Not impressed with this website....
