Duolingo is the most popular way to learn languages in the world. Best of all, it's 100% free!

What about maybe some short movies?

Will that be possible in the near future, that Duolingo starts putting here some short movies of couples of minutes of people saying daily phrases related to ones level, So we can also try to follow a full conversation? That would definitely upgrade even more the whole studying process.

it doesn't even need to be a film, it can be also just a recording of 20-30 phrases during a conversation in mp3 format. Thank you!!

I think this is a great idea and I bet if something opened up where users could submit videos and other users could approve them (for content, grammar, pronunciation, etc.) there would be a lot of activity around it. What do you say Duo?

I think the only problem would be the server's capacity. A great idea!

Very true. Users could always host on youtube and submit links to duo for inclusion in the program. Sort of a blend between the original idea and the one shown in u/pinkduckling's link (in this thread).

Duolingo had a hackathon where they worked on adding a youtube immersion section.

I'm not sure if they had it yet. I think they talked about having it and sorta put it off when all this incubator commotion came up. I can't blame them though. Busy busy work.

Did you click on pinkduckling's link? Yes, they had it.

Yeah I knew that they had this hackathon where they planned these ideas, but I don't think they've incorporated any of the ideas onto this site yet.

I believe this is something which would have to come out of the community. It would be too much work for the developers while they are devoting most of the time to improving the app experience.

You can allways download tons of podcasts from The internet. Many of them are free and will let you practice listening to native speakers.

It depends. Pretty much any podcast will do, except maybe a podcast about foreign affairs.

If you want educational podcasts for learning German, check out Deutsche Welle's material for learning. They have lots of good stuff available for download. Here's a series for you to check out: http://www.dw.de/learn-german/deutsch-warum-nicht/s-2548

Yabla/loMasTV is not free (10/mo), but has great videos with a wide range of topics, including some short videos up to long movies and series. Love it, and you can slow it down. A great site.
