Personally I believe it's a huge waste of public money, after all it could have been used for a lot of more important matters nationwide.

^ Sim, exatamente. Que triste para os brasileros. Essa é a pior forma de globalização.

edit-Okay guys I guess I'll write in English...."Yes, exactly. How sad for the Brazilians. This is the worst form a globalization"....it gets harder and harder to write in these forums sometimes...

Obrigado meu amigo. Estou tratando do melhorar meu português. Falo com brasileiros na minha universidade mas no tinha uma conversação em um tanto tempo.

Edit- thanks, I'm trying to improve my Portuguese. I am better at speaking than at writing. I used to talk with a lot of Brazilians at my school, but I haven't seen them since summer break began.

"Sim, exatamente. Que triste para os brasileiros. Essa é a pior forma de globalização" ;)

Totally in agreement here, globalization has become a strong nuisance for our time, especially in third world countries.

Ah, obrigado! I just realized I put some Spanish in there, haha...

Third world countries are a playground for the rich and their leaders allow this sort of thing to happen from Latin America to Africa to Asia.

I agree. But I wonder whether that kind of thing happened in the countries that received the games, for instance, in London or Beijing.

Surely the situation was different in those places. Our government really has no interest in actually improving the country, it seems :\

Recently the government of the Rio has laid many police officers in the downtown, sincerely, I feel safe to walk by there now. What's worrying is the fact If the city will keep that safety after games. I don't see so many legacies as they had told us a while ago.

i think that the brazilian politics about the olympics it's a wrong way to show the facts to the folks of Brazil, they get so much troops for the security of the event and when it ends, they go out and the problems like violence returns on the same way that it was before.

July 26, 2016

i beleive that the problems with violence will be worse, because the city will have more money after the games.

Unfortunately no Daniel, the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympic Games will leave Rio with debts for 10 years according with renamed and neutrals brazilian magazines and periodics.

I think that Olympic Games is a waste of money, so much brazilians need aid, and the state don't give a sh** to us. sadly :(

The only thing i can think of is in the terrorist attacks. I live in a big city of Brazil (São Paulo) and i am afraid to ride the subway, of walking in the paulista avenue and other importants parts of the city. This is really so sad!

And what is happening with the Olympic accommodations? This is an example of brazilian diary disorganization. The buildings of Olympic Village have the same problem faced by thousands of Brazilians when they buy a home: It delivered with all possible defects.

Well, I'm not against it. People can say that this is a waste of money, but I think this isn't our major problem, the Olimpic Games or the World Cup. Our problem is the money who is robbed and bad planning. If in this country there were no detour of money and our politics were really concerned about the quality of life of the population, we would have good security, education, roads and a Olympic Games to be proud of.

People think it is a waste of money, I don't agree with it. A lot of people around the world will come to watch The Games and spend their money, particularly I don't like the games and I won't watch it.

July 25, 2016

https://www.duolingo.com/gabzerbinatoEng

Of course it'll be highly profitable for the government, however when people say it's a waste of money it's due to the fact that the costs to this huge event could be spent with something more significant for the people.

I don't think that the amont of money that foreigners will spend here will help with the deep economic crises that RJ is going through. Besides, Rio is just not prepared for the Olympics, as always we are running out of time to make things ''acceptable''.

The Olympic Games in Brazil are going to be very good for us! Yes, a lot of money will be spent, and i know that money could be spent on other matters that has more relevance. But we have to realize that the money spent in Brazil for the Olympics stays in Brazil after de Olympics. It's not a waste. I know that health is more important, also is security and education, but the money used to create the event will convert in all of that for us, because the event will end and we will keep it all! If we build a stadium, we have to build better streets and avenues, which implies in better infraestructure and better security (less risk of accidents), and that will have consequences on all that matters: education (better ways to go to school, college, shortens the time and the distance), health (shortens the time and distance to hospitals) etc. And that's just one exemple. People will come, they'll spend their money, then they will leave and left everything to us. Can it be better? That's awesome! hehehehe

July 25, 2016

https://www.duolingo.com/BorgesRebeca

I desagree. The amount of money that tourists will bring won't even begin to cover all our government has spent with the Olympics. It won't save us from the crises or fill the hole in RJ's accounts. All the event was poorly prepered and executed, with tons of problems in the last minute that could have been avoid and ,with that tons of money that could have been saved. The money we spent wouldn't be a waste if it was well spent, if these last desperate attempts to show the world that Rio is safe and ready (the military force, the anti-terrorist operation, etc) weren't just empty actions. Probably the money brought by the Olympics will be use to cover the holes in Rio's economy, and the infrastructure for the event won't change the lives of the people that live in the city. It's naive to think that the Olympics can or will help with the many problems tha Brazilians and ''cariocas'' are going through.

I think about the olympic games is just waste of money and Brazil is in crisis we can not waste money.

Honest, I thinks that the country didn't prepared to do this now.... We need to fix a lot of things before. Now, I only wish that everthing will be fine for all athletes

I think there are two paths of see this question. First one is that it is a great opportunity to improve our knowledge about all the sports. The second path is sad, the brasilian people, in general, feels that moment like a complete waste of public money and time. I hope i was clear. Thanks!

July 27, 2016

I agree with you!!!! The brasilian people, like me, think this way because we need more education, security, health and other things in this country.

July 27, 2016

I very worried whem that ends the olympiad, because Rio not has money for security and with it , the violence will increase.

These Olympics in Brazil is more "A big party of bread and circuses" to delude the nation, is a party of government interests! That is my vision of World and brazilian people!
