Who here thinks we should have a Duolingo convention?
I just thought it would be a nice idea so that friends could see each other in person or a groups can discuss french, chinese, spanish, whatever!
I actually had a "mini-convention" with two of my Duolingo friends in Helsinki a few months ago. It was great fun! I would love to attend a European convention should one be organised. :)
Imagine if all Duolingo users met... awkward moment...
The spammers would be walking around shouting "Spare lingots, does anyone have any spare lingots?".
Later, you go up to one and ask what language they're learning and they say Spanish. So you say "Hola, como estas?" to them and they whip out their phone and look up what that means into google translate then get google translate to read out the response. They're super proud of reaching level 25 in only 2 hours.
Maybe. The only question is: where to have it? Duolingo only has a few thousand really serious users (most people who try Duolingo stop after a few days), and chances are only a fraction of the people can make it, so location is key.
I'm talking about really serious users (people who have used Duolingo regularly for more than, say, a year and has pretty high levels in the languages that they learn). Millions of people join Duolingo and do it for a few days, just to quit.
that's ok! It would be nice for those who can make it, and it could be a pilot event, so that it can become the first of more conventions, which could take place around the various parts of the world! I like the idea! I would want to meet people in person, and that does not mean that I want to share contact information, so a great way to meet would be in a convention!
I find the idea cool and don't know why it is getting dissed now. On the other hand, there are enough polyglot conferences one could attend, so I don't think that a special Duolingo event would be worth it.
I would be hard to find a place because duolingo users live all over the place.
there could be several meetings in different places, we can't all talk at once anyway :-)
I have thought about that already. And it would be kinda cool to see people walking around with their usernames pinned to their shirts;) I think they should have one every six months so they could hit a lot of different places in the world and give everyone a chance to attend.
Yeah, there could be like a Duolingo world tour with signings by someone dressed up in a Duo shirt, and everyone has a picture of their profile picture, too. They could also sell a bunch of Duo merch. This is starting to sound more like a band tour!
Yeah! And add a little duo's got talent theme to it where people could show off their language skills and you could even televise it!
That would be pretty cool. Duocon... I thought it would be cool in the past to meet people in person that I knew online.
Maybe use Face Time or Skype because duolingos live allover the world and who knows where?!
