use of "since" in the past tense is correct or not?

Can we used "since" in the past perfect continuous tense, can't we? Or We used "from" in the place of "since" in the past continuous tense? For example: I had been reading a novel since 2008.(past perfect continuous tense). We write this sentence in past continuous tense form. I was reading a novel from 2008.(past continuous tense) Both the tenses are correct? And both the tenses represent same meaning?

"I had been reading a novel since 2008" means that I had started reading that novel in 2008. "I was reading a novel from 2008" implies that the novel was written in 2008.

Hmmm. Both are valid sentences, but they convey slightly different meanings.

The sentence with "since" conveys the thought that you have been reading the same novel since 2008.

The sentence with "from" conveys the thought that you have been reading a novel that was written in 2008.
