Interesting, in russian обыватель means "a common man", though words have obviously the same origin.
Can you put it as: "I am the inhabitant" ?
That's a surprising word... anyway, it seems that it could work for "mieszkaniec", but not here.
"obywatel" is about citizenship of the country, not living in a specific city.
