"Und dann kommt es drauf an."
Can anyone explain this one to me? Where was I supposed to get the word "chips" from?
i can't say i'm very familiar with the the 'chips down' expression - i imagine it's an american thing, but from what i've gleaned online it doesn't seem to be used at all in the same sense as "it depends," which I believe is the closer equivalent.
It means it is the deciding moment. Like in poker when you put your chips down to wager.
are you referring the english or the german? or both? i understand the english expression (and despite a relative lack of familiarity with it, i'm pretty sure it's only really used in gambling related contexts), it's just that i'm unsure whether this is what the german is saying.
