Welsh Immersion Articles?
Does anyone have any links to any Welsh-to-English Immersion articles? I could upload a couple but I just wanted to see if anyone had any already. I know there aren't any English-to-Welsh available, I just can't quite trick my browser into checking the Welsh-to-English section.
Is there a Welsh Immersion hub? I was unable to locate one.
I uploaded one for WE ==> EN, hope you like it.
Here is the article I was going to upload, about the Castle at Caernarfon
Thanks. I could have done that myself but I was hoping for some articles that had some work done on them already, with some other contributors who could check my work and I learn from theirs.
Is it possible to show alternative translations in parallel? Sometimes is is possible to have several different good translations of a particular piece. Or is there some common convention for showing alternatives in the same piece, such as putting them in square brackets or similar?
I do not know of a way in immersion to show more than one translation for a single sentence but that would make immersion even more powerful of a learning tool than it already is.
The way you are leaving comments about the grammar is very helpful and insightful to a learner like me. Thank you for that! I don't think I am at a level in Welsh where I can fully benefit from that sort of feedback but I hope to get there.
Is it possible to upload documents of other types? Many Wiki etc articles are quite complex, or sometimes not very well written, whereas plain text or .doc documents could be corrected or adapted for newer learners.
It is possible to upload other document types but there are restrictions about copyrights. Per this article the article must be either owned by the user uploading it or available under Creative Commons. Wikipedia is available under CC and easy to use so many Wikipedia articles get uploaded.
As far as I know, Immersion articles can only be uploaded from an internet site, so you could not upload a .doc from your computer but if you had one loaded on a website it probably should work.
Worth noting - it is possible to go the other way, to submit articles for translation from English (or Spanish or many other languages) to Welsh. The two-letter code for Welsh is cy, so upload an English article and when inspecting the element, just change None Selected to cy} and it will be available for translation. There is an index for English to Welsh articles (but you have to have Duo set to a language with Immersion to access it, so Portuguese, Italian, German, French or Spanish):
And Spanish to Welsh (If DiegoJavi goes that way) would be:
Now there are a catalogue of immersion for the English course from Vietnamese. See the link below:
An August gift from Luis: Immersion articles!
And they are using very simple articles from Wikipedia (find the articles in Simple English).
Each article has the link of the original text in the reference and you can use this text to translate it to any other language.
You can see the complete list and articles uploaded by the users in this link (www.duolingo.com/translations/en/vi).
Some people are using a personal blog (blogspot) to create a text a then submit it to Duo for immersion.
In the other hand, still there is no articles from English to Welsh, or Spanish to Welsh (only one article from Welsh to Spanish. We need to upload some of these.
There isn't and will never be a immersion on duolingo for any externally developed course, and in fact duolingo has been looking at phasing out the immersion aspects altogether for all courses.
Hi Deodwyn! I have found this: https://www.duolingo.com/translation/1a8cee6ccef637b63fe7a3b58fd4caa8
Also try to enter from a window in private mode here (https://www.duolingo.com/translations/cy/en)
Edit: I see the link does not work, but only this: (www.duolingo.com/translations). Perhaps using the browser console would be solved. O_O
I can the see the links in normal mode anyways:
A little different version of Cymru (perhaps with some changes):
If you want to try doing Welsh-to-Spanish, I have uploaded this one (Oceania):
I think I will add two more in next post of Romance languages immersion series (Serie de inmersión en lenguas romances - Duolingo in Spanish forum). I have been added some extra languages (bonus - non Romance) as Swahili, Basque, Welsh and Indonesian. So, I will add two different (perhaps three) languages in next post and repeat the two Welsh and Indonesian.
Nice! Just in case any Argentinians are interested in taking a crack at Welsh from Y Wladfa.
Of course yes! Also the Basque and Galician are important communities in Chubut and Santa Cruz provinces. =))
