I love the application for the Duolingo Design Internship
A few of my favorite lines:
"Assistance in moving here (Pittsburgh, PA) from wherever you currently reside (even from the Cook Islands)"
"The usual bling bling $"
I don't know any programming or I'd apply. But I know there are several Duolingoers who are great at programming! You should check it out:
There are a few non-intern positions as well. You can find them here: https://www.duolingo.com/jobs
There are few days that go by that I don't kick myself for not majoring in computer science. It was one of the majors that I seriously considered, but then I went into languages and picked up political science on the way. But if someone had told me a couple years after I graduated this website would exist, I would definitely have picked it, because working at Duolingo would be a dream come true. I'm even trying to get as far as I can on Codeacademy to teach myself programming to deal with the feeling of a missed opportunity, but that website just kindof spoon feeds you everything. I've completed the HTML/CSS portions but feel like I still don't have a really firm grasp on it. Maybe in five years if I actually build up some good programming skills and Duo is still looking for staff I'll try to apply.
Thanks for the link. I know very little about coding. But, I've become more interested since hearing about the "userscripts" HodOfHod has been creating for people to use on Duolingo. Do you know if Dodeacademy teaches anything like that? (I've just signed up and I'm having a peak now, but, just in case it isn't obvious on the website, thought I'd ask.)
Check out Coursera and edX for more programming lessons. They have everything from the very basics to professional-level stuff. I'm finishing up my degree in CS and I definitely think the Coursera course I'm taking is just as useful as my university classes.
I had heard of the Coursera courses but haven't heard that they were so good. Thank you for the recommendation!!
Bahaha! I love where this conversation is going with the spices. xD
Thanks FrankySka! I changed it.
Yes, I wonder what seasoning they used xD
That looks like Duo's evil twin! :-0
(Edit: I am referring to the picture posted by FrankySka.)
wait there's a duolingo internship. I'm onlyin 7th grade but I want to have a whole lot on my college resume so I can get into one of the good architecture or medical or law ones.
I'm not sure if there is a minimum age. I know there are some very smart young folks out there, some of them even appear on TedxTalks! So check the application to see their requirements. If you meet those, talk to your guardians about applying. :)
One of my friend's here on Duoling named Puddleglum listed learning a language on Duolingo on their college application, and even talked about it in their interview! :D
I'm glad you're thinking ahead like this. It's a good idea!
It stands for "Moderator" When you receive the new layout, it will change to a green circle around my name with what looks like either bunny footprints or a shield (I'm personally in favor of the "they look like bunny footprints" perception myself ;) When someone hovers over my icon, the word "moderator" pops up. But, I'm pretty sure it's only on the new layout. :)
PS I left a message on your Activity/Stream about your username. :)
working in duolingo is like a dream. i would love to work there someday
