Remember kids, cyberbullying is never okay. If you're being harrassed by a satellite sending weird messages to you, tell an adult... or NASA.
Well, לַוְיָן is a nice loan translation of Russian Спутник (sputnik, i.e. travelling compagnion), the first Soviet spacecraft, from the verb לִוָּה accompany, escort.
I really appreciate these comments from you Ingeborg. Knowing a bit of the etymology helps it stick. Thanks for taking the time.
That's interesting to think about... if satellites could talk of their own free will, what would they say?
"It's so cold here.. does anyone have a sweater I could borrow?"
Sorry that I could only upvote your comment to a less severe negative number. Maybe something in the wiring went wrong, making the satellite send strange messages.
