If you say thanks after the answer and before make question is most polite. "I'm fine, thanks and you?"
I can be wrong, but if you don't mind, just a tip: I think if you were talking to a foreign, he/she maybe wouldn't know what "RJ" means. They usually just call "Rio". And if we are talking in English, I think it's always good to pretend that it's with somebody from another country.
