Great to hear from you. I'll give you some details. I'm glad I left this post open. (I'd thought to delete it after the event.) Short answer: this was the first one. If you want them to happen regularly, your participation will help.

Longer answer: I am from the northeast and am currently visiting Mesa. There is certainly enough local talent and interest here that this could be a regular thing, but this was happening as a direct result of my visit. While setting up this even, I heard from several people in Tuscon. It sounds like all that's needed is someone to step forward, pick a place to meet, and announce it.

If a meeting were to be organized, what sort of venues have you made use of? This Phoenix one was in Applebees, ĉu? Have there been other sorts of places besides restaurants that you have had success with?

I would have preferred something local - or at least a regional chain, but I went with Applebee's because I knew what to expect, plus the location was right for meeting up with someone from Gilbert. Back home, I've often had people over to my house. While we were discussing setting this one up, one person shared information about a public library meeting room. Sometimes just coffee is nice.

For a weekend event, we've enjoyed touring a science museum together - that sort of thing - no reason that couldn't be a local afternoon or evening event venue. In mild weather, a park might be nice. (I once organized a breakfast cookout to accommodate the schedule of some busy out-of-town Esperantists who were in my town for something else.)

Sounds pretty open-ended, then. Thanks for the advice! I will see how apt I may or may not be at coordinating something also. : )

I just found out that my sister is going to be in Dayton, so I'm thinking about going to see her so I'll be in the area. I'd love to see if we could put something together.

I'm going back to Mesa. I'd be willing to meet up more than once while I'm out that way -- let me know where and when ... or come to this one.
