Minato - a free Japanese resource

Hi there!

Since a lot of people here seem interested in learning Japanese, I thought I'd share a rather new resource I found.

"Minato" is made by the Japan Foundation which , for example, also oversees the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) conduction abroad. It can be likened to the German Goethe-Institut, if that helps you to get an idea.

Currently, Minato offers four self-study and one tutored course (in the application phase right now), all free of charge. There is one course for hiragana and katakana (the two Japanese syllabaries) respectively and the other courses are based on the "Marugoto" textbook series which is also published by the Japan Foundation. There's Marugoto Katsudoo A1-1 (focuses on listening and speaking, I think) and Marugoto Katsudoo & Rikai A1-1 which covers all of Katsudoo plus writing. The tutored course is also Katsudoo & Rikai A1-1.

They plan to add more content as well as tutored courses that require a fee, but right now you can use it for free to learn some basics. The structure is quite different from Duo but I consider that a good thing as it tries to do as much as possible in Japanese without having you switch between languages all the time.
