Memorizing tones and special characters

So, yeah, I struggle. I generally excel at memorization but I am immensely struggling with the tones and special characters here. I started to "dance" every combination of accents on a word and it led to some improvement, but I wonder how you do it. Are there some memorization techniques you recommend?

Do you mean... how to remember which tone to use? And what are the "special characters"? Once you master the tones and the pronunciation of the vowels and consonants (or at least get a sufficient grasp of them), you'll be able to memorize them more easily. Indeed, while having a good visual memory can help, I think it's only when you are able to pronounce adequately the sounds that your brain truly can assimilate them. Repeat and repeat until it becomes natural.

Okay, that is a good idea. I am using memrise already because the course has pretty consistent audio anytime a word is said, but I often neglected repeating it out loud.

That's what I do here too, I always repeat the sentences at least once :). If there is an English sentence to translate to Vietnamese, I try saying it out loud first and then I type it :D
