Bürger = Citizen Meister = Master So that is why the mayor is the master of the citizens!

Because it is not quite right. Mayor in German is generally just Bürgermeister. The closest equivalent would be someone like Erster Bürgermeister Olaf Scholz in Hamburg. He's considered the "First Mayor".

    "Mayor" is Bürgermeister, with an umlaut.
