If you are having technical difficulties, post in the Troubleshooting forum (But, please check first to make sure someone hasn't already created a post for the same problem. If they have, post in that discussion rather than creating a new one. Multiple posts on the same topic can get confusing to keep track of for people who want to help you. In addition, someone may have already posted an answer for how to fix your problem in the the discussion that already exists.)

  • Always note in your post what Operating System and Browser you're using. (For example, I use Windows7/Firefox.)
  • Also, please try to note any error messages you receive.
  • If you can add screenshots, that would help a lot but is not required. (Instructions on how to take a screen shot can be found in the New User FAQ, located in A Guide to Duolingo Guides: http://www.duolingo.com/comment/1278938)

The absence of the skill tree is not a technical glitch. It is possible that the feature will return once the User Groups feature is complete and added to Duolingo. ^_^

Same as the vocab list as well? But i feel the correct way shld have it all only come to upgrade step. =((

Vocab is also going to be returning. Duolingo does a lot of research, testing every portion of the website. I was part of the original 10% to receive the new layout 2 months ago. There were hardly any features available at that time. They added one at a time over the past two months so they could collect data. They want to be as thorough as possible. So far, the data shows that they have done the right thing. Here is a direct quote from Luis about the results:

New users, old users, heavy users, casual users, all of them use the website on average more often and for longer each time, progress further down the tree, and have higher estimated learning outcomes. Source:

So, whatever strategy they are using along the way has been improving things for the majority of users. There is a whole crew of super brilliant people doing their best because they also want this place to succeed. They are super motivated, so much so that they created a free website that costs tons of money to maintain it and it's 2014 and this place is still open. :)

The best contribution users like you and I can make is to give honest feedback, be helpful to one another, respect the guidelines that are there to give users the most welcoming and safe experience possible in the Discussion forums, learn how to be the best translators we can be in Immersion, recognize that millions of users all want slightly different things but have to share this space with one another, and be patient. It takes a lot of work to keep this website going. People are pouring their sincere heart's effort into it.

Yes, I imagine that just like last time, they are doing some bug fixing in the background. They really are attentive, it's just that so much of what they do isn't visible. So, if you're trying to get to a page and it suddenly starts reloading several times in a row before chilling out, or it takes a while to load, or other weird stuff starts happening, just let it run it's course. It did that when they upgraded the previous 40% to the new layout. ^_^

Would this apply to emails (only from Duo as far as I know) not getting through? I get the notification on the site but it never appears on email.

Howdy jaye16 ^_^

I'm not having any problems with my email notifications that I know of. I've continued to get a steady stream of them today. However, I suggest double-checking to make sure your notification preferences are still set the way you want them to be.

1. Hover over your username.
2. Select "Settings"
3. Select "Notifications"
(The upside to having everyone on the same layout now, I only have to give one set of instructions for how to find stuff. T^T happy tears.)

If everything is set correctly but you are still not receiving notifications, I would check to see if anyone has posted anything in Troubleshooting about it. Let me know if anything changes!

I have been downgraded to an inferior version of DuoLingo with a pastel, low-contrast colour scheme that is missing vital parts of the website I use all the time, notably the Vocabulary section and the per-topic discussions.

How do I upgrade to the fully-featured DL I used to have?
