We would definitely say shaver for an electric shaver here in Ireland as well, if that helps.

Why is "shaver" the first suggested response? Is there any major dialect of English that actually uses that term on a regular basis?

Yes. I use a shaver. It's an electric shaver, but I would almost always just call it a "shaver". Brit. Eng. major enough?

Stright razor= brzytwa https://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brzytwa

safety razor= maszynka do golenia, (sometimes golarka) https://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maszynka_do_golenia

electric razor/shaver = golarka https://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golarka

razor blade=żyletka

(this comes from 1 minute google images and wikipedia reaserch)

Yes, but that doesn't really answer my question. I'm asking about their choice of English terms, not Polish terms.

Czy można używać "naprawiać", na przykład: "I am correcting the test answers" albo coś takiego?

Nie w tym zdaniu. "Naprawiać" to zasadniczo "to fix".

W Twoim zdaniu to będzie "poprawiać": Poprawiam odpowiedzi w testach.

Dziękuję za odpowiedź

At least in my English dialect we say "razor".

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/eannaoc

A razor would be a manual, non-electric one, a shaver is generally electric

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Jellei

Sure, it works. I would also go with 'razor' myself.

Shaver sounds like a kid word.

No - my kids don't shave

Dzieci są małe golarki.

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Jellei

That would either be "Dzieci to małe golarki" or "Dzieci są małymi golarkami".

I initially wrote "I repair old shavers" (as if it was a profession or a hobby) and it was rejected in favor of the -ing form. Would the Polish be different if the intent was to express a habitual activity?

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/JerryMcCarthy99

The problem here is that you used "shavers" rather than "shaver". The Polish "golarkę" definitely refers to one shaver; "shavers" would be "golarki".

You were then shown the "-ing" form as it is top of the list of correct answers.

I just had to try, "I am putting the old shaver right". "To put right" would be a great mnemonic to equate with "Naprawić". But my answer was rejected.
