"Is there a decision yet?"

Translation:כבר יש החלטה?

August 24, 2016

Is it not correct יש עדיין החלטה ?

יש עדיין החלטה = there is still a decision

Maybe as no native speaker of English I don't understand well the difference between "yet" and "still", but looking to the dictionary I find that "yet' and "still are translations of "עדיין" http://www.morfix.co.il/%D7%A2%D7%93%D7%99%D7%99%D7%9F But no one of them is listed as a valid translation of "כבר" http://www.morfix.co.il/%D7%9B%D7%91%D7%A8 (given translations for כבר are just "already" and "soon")

For me, the difference lies in what the speaker thinks the situation used to be: if he knows that previously a decision was made, then you'd use עדיין and ask whether it hasn't changed; if he doesn't know of a decision that was previously made and is waiting for quite some time you'd use כבר.

I think now I understand it. Thanks a lot!

Why not כבר יש החלטה?
