So you say gwylio’r rygbi but not gwylio’r golff? Is there any rule for when to use the definite article and when just the plain noun?

"Gwylio'r rygbi/golff"-"Watching the rygbi/golf", "Gwylio rygbi/golff"-"Watching rygbi/golf". So "Dw i'n gwylio'r golff"="I am watching the golf" i.e A specific match/event.
