My new custom Duolingo t-shirt!
Okay, I know this post isn't 100% language related but bear with me.
I've wanted a duolingo t-shirt for a while. However, none of the designs in the Gear Store were too appealing to me. Eventually I resolved to come up with my own design and order it from a one off t-shirt printer.
So anyway, today is the day, it's here!
And here's me trying not to be weird while a picture of me wearing it is being taken:
So anyway, it turned out awesome! It includes the flags of all the languages currently available and in development for english and spanish speakers (some of you might have been wondering where catalan and guarani came from). I did exclude esperanto and klingon, they simply didn't seem to fit with the others too well. *Edit: Just realized I did put esperanto in.
I'd be happy to give out the final design file but I'm going to hold off on that for now. Since I used the duolingo brand and even their flag images I don't exactly have rights to distribute the image. (This could change if I got a go ahead from someone at duolingo).
*Edit August 28th, 2016
I've decided to release the design file as well as place the design up for sale on several printing sites (at no profit). However, as I have made at least one mistake in my design I plan to revise it before releasing the file. If you spot any other errors be sure to mention them here and I'll correct them before the final file is released.
Error(s) I'm currently aware of: -Missing Indonesian Flag
I'll create a new post when I have put the shirt up for sale. If you're interested you can either keep an eye on the discussions or follow this post (I plan to comment that the new discussion is up.)
Thanks for all the wonderful responses!
*edit: The discussion with the link to purchase is up! Check it out here.
Indeed :) Are you in a position to ask the Duolingo staff whether it would be ok for zakblak to distribute the design file, Usagi?
I try not to be a conduit for contact requests, I can very easily be overwhelmed with equally good requests. I'm sorry. :(
What I will say, without any authority, is that I don't think Duolingo will mind people celebrating Duolingo, so long as no one is making a profit or causing problems. The T-shirts in the Gear store are being sold at the price it costs to make them, so they are not a means to profit for Duolingo.
I think it would be nice if any flag errors on the design get corrected first though, so people don't think that Duolingo has made errors that it hasn't made.
Again, I have no legal authority to give permission on this matter.
@Zacblak, I would love one of these as a polo shirt. I'd appreciate a copy of the design file once it's ready, or I'd happily buy one from you if you sold them (at cost, as Usagiboy7 says).
I like it! I feel bad for the languages who will later make an appearance here tho xD
Nice :) You could maybe offer the design file to Duolingo. Maybe they'd sell your design along with their other gear.
This is a great design, well done!!
Shame that the Greek flag is wrong, I just noticed that's how they have it in all their content. There are only 9 rows in the Greek flag, it starts and ends in blue, it's the number of syllables in the phrase "Freedom or death" (in Greek obviously). Now, how to let them know?
You made that design yourself? I love it! If Duolingo gives the okay I would be thrilled to have the file.
(Random thought: I there a reason you didn't add the American flag? They teach English too. :))
You could put the Union Flag, or the St George Cross on there, though :)
Not exactly, there are a few of the flags for languages not yet out of the incubator.
Not if they are still in the incubator. Although they can see them, all an English speaker can do is to request a notification when they are available. You can only start the courses when they are released into B testing.
My point is that they will be available to English speakers. I believe I didn't clarify. When I said "English speakers" I meant languages that are and will be available.
This is very nice. I've started to do this before but never got around to it. :) your design is definitely much better than what I planned to do though. Enjoy 10 Lingots on the house from me.
