When was 'הבנות ' ever introduced as meaning girls?

If it wasn't it should be

Ma ha-yeladot rotsot?

Why מה instead of את מה?

Well, מַה does not uae the particle אֶת before it, even if it introduces a direct object.

Wait what does בנות mean?

How about yaldot when do I use?

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/ChayaDoppelt

It's yeladot. בנות is usually used when you wanna stress that it's girls and not boys

Why is there a gap between the question-mark and the word? In English this is not correct.

They want teaspoons, remember? We all learned that in the "food 2" skill.

Why does the question have ,"מה הבנות רוצות?" ,when the question at the top of this discussion is,"מה הילדות רוצות"? We were not given the word," הבנות", before this.

Duolingo will often change the gender or the number of the sentence when it switches to the forum page, and I believe that’s to give as wide an exposure as possible to different forms. However on rare occasions, Duolingo will change something more radical, and that’s what probably what happened here if the word on the question page was ‏בנות banot, girls (or sometimes daughters).

Or maybe Duolingo thought it was defining “girls” by giving you one way to say it on the question page and another way to say it here on the forum page.
