How to re-take placement test?

Since starting I have traveled around Spanish speaking country improving significantly. I would like to retake the placement exam but can not find it in the web interface, how can I do this?

Thanks!

I am not sure you can retake the placement test (someone correct me if I am wrong), but you can 'unlock' later sections of the tree, which basically has the same effect :)

How does that work?

Also, I just recommended duolingo to a friend but she cannot find the placement exam either even though she has never taken it. The interface is different now than when I took it and I cant find it, where can a new person find the placement test?

to unlock sections you click on the checkpoints in your tree and 'test out' those sections. I am not sure about the placement test because I never did one and I just have been swapped over to the new layout, but I will try to figure it out and get back to you. :)

The best I could find out is that there is a 'tour' at the beginning, and that you will be asked about the placement test at some point. Also, Usagi mentioned in the 'new user FAQ' (https://www.duolingo.com/comment/1426103, point 18) that you are apparently able to retake the placement test when you set back you tree. if you do that you loose all your progress levels, and points though. Sorry I cannot be of more help here - still trying to navigate the new layout myself!

Whenever you start a new language, there is a prompt for you to either start learning Basics 1 or take the placement test. You can easily validate that by clicking on a language you haven't learnt before :)

Click on your user name in the top right corner, go to Settings, Learning Language, Reset or remove languages, remove the desired language. Once you've deleted the language, add it again and you'll see the button for the placement test right above the tree.

This will delete all your progress though, so I don't think it is what you want. But your friend might find it relevant if she hasn't started the tree yet. Otherwise, just scroll down in the tree to the yellow buttons that say "Test out of XX skills" or test out of skills individually if you're confident, like FrankySka said.

You don't have to remove the language, resetting is sufficient (don't know exactly what's the difference between these two, though).

Hi espanol25,

Before you reset your tree, please go here: http://www.duolingo.com/comment/1426103 And read "Levels" as well as "Resetting your tree". Thanks!
