Poems and songs are divided into houses? Each one is like a little village? What a lovely metaphor.

Exactly. In Hebrew, which poem is divided into "houses" (בית). So, בית means a regular house, like everyone knows, and also it's the part of a poem/song. By the way, the part that we repeatedly sing in every song, between the "houses" is called: פיזמון = Pizmon

Chorus כורוס = pizmon פיזמון? Got it. Thank you.

Not sure if Arabic influence or what, but in Arabic and Persian poetry (Which have a long history of rhyming and matching syllable lengths and other artistic features), "Bayt" also refers to a verse, which is ,.. a beautiful metaphor now that you think abiut it.
