From time to time I'll have trouble in some of the duolingo lessons, and I just don't understand the logic behind some of these sentences.
"U nee men’she koshek, i eto khorosho." "She has fewer cats and that is good."
"Luchshe pomyt’ tri tarelki." "It is better to wash three plates."
Why is it better to wash three plates? My initial answer was "Better wash three plates", because I could actually see myself saying that to someone. I just can't see myself or anyone saying "it is better to wash three plates".. Maybe it's just me.
I understand it might be difficult to come up with example sentences, but some of these example sentences are just so random. I know this isn't really a question or anything, I guess I'm just venting.
Да просто это очень ленивая пара (парень и девушка) собираются поужинать. У них вся посуда грязная. Он говорит: ну что ж, помоем пару тарелок и поужинаем. Она: возможно придет моя мама. Лучше помыть три тарелки. :D
It is just a very lazy coupl (boy and his girl) is going to have a dinner. All of their plates are dirty. He says: let's wash two plates and have dinner. She says: my mother maybe come over. It is better to wash three plates.
As for "у неё меньше кошек и это хорошо", A couple (maybe the same lazy couple from previous example) had a crazy neighbor lady who had thirty cats. Then the couple moved to another place and found out that there was also a crazy neighbor lady there. But she wasn't as crazy as previous one. Maybe just a little weird (like the sentence which we are talking about) and she had only five cats. So it is quite possible to say: "she has fewer cats and that is good." Только на русском в этом случае сказали немного иначе: "У нее меньше кошек, и то хорошо", "и то ладно", "по крайней мере у нее меньше кошек".
To vent is to talk or complain about something, to make yourself feel better. Usually people are a little upset or frustrated when they vent about something. I was (and still am) a little frustrated with the example sentences duolingo uses, I think they can do better.
I'm not the best at explaining my thoughts sometimes, so let me try to clarify. Of course I can see certain times when you could use the example sentences duolingo uses.
It's like I said in the link below, I agree with PeterEnis5 . He said "This sentence appears to be nonsensical and/or lack a very specific context. I don't think that's ideal for a language teaching enviroment...". https://www.duolingo.com/comment/12997156
The lack of context can make some of these sentences hard to translate, and some of them really do just seem like random nonsense. I understand you can never make everyone happy, and some people will always have an issue with some of the example sentences being used. I guess i'm just trying to say that I think duolingo can do better.
