How about "It could affect my internship"?

I think it actually sounds more natural like this in English, although it's less literal.

This can "have an effect" on my internship.

This was my translation which Duo. marked incorrect. The words in quotes are one of the options given for a translation when I hovered my mouse over the word

להשפיע

I think you're perfectly correct. The weakest part of duolingo are the translations into English. Their translations just aren't nuanced enough.

In cases like this, be sure to click the flag and enter "my answer should have been marked correct." They don't always have every possible translation entered in the answers they mark correct, but they will add it eventually when we point out an omission.

"This could influence my training " was erroneously marked as incorrect. That is a definite blunder on the part of Duolingo.

Subjunctive =could since it hasn't and might not happen.

Could, would... =conditional

Subjunctive is something completely different.

I think you hit it! "Could" here is CONDITIONAL - indicating possible future.

Unfortunately, even Morfix doesn't get that. They think could is only past tense.

My understanding of the subjunctive is that you're dealing with something contrary to fact. If I WERE a rich man....
