Duolingo is the most popular way to learn languages in the world. Best of all, it's 100% free!

I managed to convince one of my teachers (who's the one I learn from online) to use Duolingo instead of Rosetta Stone, and gave a bunch of reasons for it. I asked if I could get credit for doing the Esperanto course and told her about the test that Duolingo has built into it. The last time I did it, which was about a week ago, I got 3.14, so I didn't expect to do too well.

I got 5/5.

I literally fell out of my chair.

I'm guessing that I'll get credit for the course.

Thank you, Duolingo, for letting me learn a language I've wanted to learn since I found it mentioned in a book a few years ago. I love this website.

Gratulon!

Tiam multe da homoj kredus ke vi mojosas!

Congratulations!

I know Esperanto is supposed to be "easy", but I only did the Progress Quiz in Esperanto once (just after finishing the tree) and I got 2.75/5.00, whereas I get 5/5 in French and Italian almost always.

I did the Progress Quiz in Catalan (just after finishing the tree) and I got 3.27/5.00.

In general, it all makes sense, because my "real" levels are:

English and Spanish >>>>>>>>>> French and Italian >>> Portuguese >>>> Catalan >>> Esperanto >>> German.

I started all these languages (bar English and Spanish) from scratch almost one year ago, but Italian and French are the ones I have worked the most.

Eble vi simple devas ekzerci vin en la parolado Esperanta, kaj post iom da tempo vi pliboniĝos sufiĉe por sukcesi en la Duolingva ekzameno! ^^

Good job!

I'm waiting to finish my tree before taking it, but part of me wants to have a marker to measure growth. As a teacher I give my students pre and post tests for this reason. I just need to work up the nerve.

Thanks for inspiring me ;)

Zerr's result is fantasic- kudos all round but its not a zero sum game so we might as well all have a go, i mean what elese is there to do with all those lingots (if anyone wants to do the test as a baseline but doesn't have the lingots just say, i have plenty i am willing to donate)

I figured that it was a safe thing to do, i mean no one was watching and nothing hinged on it. I only got 2/5 which on thenone hand is disappointing and a bit demotivating, in themotherhand i am dyslexic, i bet i can't actually get much higher as i can never spell everything even if i understand it perfectly ( which i don't) Go on take it...you don't have to share the result if you don't want to.

Yes, I did it twice and got a lower score the second time, which was very demotivating! I haven't done it for four months so I should do it again - maybe this weekend when I have a bit more time.

As long as we recognise that in part all doing well on a test tells us is that we are good at taking that kind of tests i can't see the harm. If we let it demotivate rather than spur or encourage us then we might benefit from not doing it. Horses for courses and all that!

I did take it again and have gone up slightly, so that's good. Still got a long way to go though. I wish it were possible to see the questions again once the test is completed - there were several words I didn't know that I would like to look up, but can't remember what they were! Should have made notes whilst doing it.
