Here's a catalogue of movies/series on Netflix with good subtitles, sorted by language: http://languagelearningwithnetflix.com/catalogue.html

Also, here's a free extension that adds bilingual subs, pop-up dictionary, and improved playback control: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/lln-language-learning-wit/hoombieeljmmljlkjmnheibnpciblicm

For beginners, ExtraFrench on youtube is great, and there are even versions for German, Spanish, and English. They are also very funny (kind of like the comedy "Friends").

I've watched a handful. Les Revenants was a pretty cool series and was even briefly popular here in the UK. A pretty creepy programme about dead people coming back from the dead, but seemingly exactly how they were before they died. It gets quite confusing at times, like "Lost" or something like that, but still a really good show.

Disparue is about a girl who goes partying with friends and doesn't come back home. Her family struggle to cope as they try to find her, with help from the police. This was a pretty gripping tv show and I really enjoyed it. Lots of cliffhangers and you are constantly guessing as to what happened to her. It isn't as "out there" as Revenants and it is probably a more accessible show.

Another one, a police drama called Les Temoins. Has a similar sort of creepy atmosphere (like most of these shows I've seen). There is a weird serial killer guy in it. Dead bodies show up in these show homes and someone seems to be after the former retired police detective. Loses steam a little towards the end but a good show.

If you are in the UK, there is this Channel 4 "Walter Presents" thing that you can access online. There are a few foreign language shows on there. Including more French ones. I know there is a drama about the French Resistance on there, that looked good. I hope I helped and you watch these good shows.

Miraculous Ladybug is a cartoon, but it's a very good one. Currently only one season is out (26 episodes) but more will be coming from May 2017.

    Would definitely recommend it.

Some good news and some bad news.

Here are links to three different sites with a lot of subtitled French content:

http://filmfra.com/ (full-length feature films) https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B5EFO7vniIASNkpSUTRUTzhPYjQ (comedy shorts) https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B5EFO7vniIASTU9hOG9fYkQ0Mk0 (TV shows)

However, the subtitles are all in French. Also the content is not watered down in any way for educational purposes (i.e. full of slang, subtle humor, etc.). So, it is somewhat for the most advanced learners - something like C1/C2 level. But they are all free for the watching and don't require any password, etc.

Not sure how many C1/C2 level people haunt the Duolingo Forum, but if anyone out there really gets good use out of these sites, "lachez-moi un com" and I can direct you to where there is more of this kind of thing.

P.S. Warning: some of the comedy shorts and TV shows are from Quebec, so don't flip out the first time you hear them.

I'm not C1/C2 but will give it a try. I find that I can understand a lot more with French subtitles on.

I notice that you are also learning Spanish. There are also a few Spanish videos mixed in with the comedy shorts and TV shows. The subtitles in those cases are in Spanish.

I looked at little bits of a couple shows, one comedy and a documentary about Spain. I'll probably go back and watch the rest of the latter. The language in the documentary was much clearer and easier for me to understand.

Netflix has subtitles options, but I'm not sure if you can get French TV shows/movies on there.

plus you have to pay for Netflix, I think.

I just watched "A Very Secret Service" (Au Service De La France) on Netflix and it was awesome. If you are into a show with some retro vibes and plenty of dark humor, it's the best bet for you. I gave it 5-Stars. Plus, S1 is only like 12 episodes so it's pretty easy to scarf down. :)

It depents on where you're located... I live in France, I can only get French subtitles for "au service de la France". The only one I found so far with English subtitles are Marcella and Marceille (I liked Marcella, I don't know if I like Marceille yet, I haven't started to watch.)

Amelie is an amazing film, and Marcella is a great French tv show. Both have French audio and English subtitles, and are on Netflix. I highly recommend both.

Marcella is quite dark, but Amelie isn't. Amelie is bright and funny and a great feel-good movie.

One of my favorites is this kids show called "L'âne Trotro" on YouTube. Very simple French and a lot of fun to watch! The episodes are about 3 minutes each. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCNy0cDNYdgx8qGMk-t1H_QA
