Course 'Hints and Tips' - a reminder about the course notes (updated mid-March 2019)

Just a reminder that Duolingo has 'Hints and Tips' for the language patterns, vocabulary and background information to support most sections of the course. If you read these before starting on a new section you will find them helpful in understanding more about the topic before you begin. They also point out any known problems with the section and with the course in general that we have not yet been able to fix. We try and keep them updated with common questions that we notice from feedback in reporting and in the discussions. As at mid-January 2019, the notes for the Welsh course are not available through the app, but they can be accessed through other routes:

  • Using a web browser, go to and log on, then choose your course - you may need to make your browser show the desktop/full version of the web pages. On the course navigation screen, you can click on the icon for a section, then click on the light-bulb symbol in the pop-up window to see the notes for the section. The notes now appear in a two-column format if you are using a wide window, so some tables may be split across the two columns. (If you still cannot access the web-site using your device's usual web browser, you could try the 'Puffin' browser app, available from your app store.)

  • You can also go to the notes directly if you know the URL name of the course section. For example, the notes for the section 'Present 1' (the short name you may see on some devices is 'Present1') are available here - - note the hyphens inserted in the 'long name' of the section. Another example, for the section 'Auxiliary Past Gwneud' (short name 'AuxPGwneud') - (Note - If using the long name with hyphens does not work (for example 'Present-Tense-3'), try again using the short name with hyphens ('Present-3') - the URL names are not entirely consistent at the moment and we are unable to update them until the next version of the course).

  • A full set of the notes is here - - if you take a copy, remember to go back and refresh it from time to time to get the latest version. The notes are also available if you go to (putting your own userid instead of 'yourusername') and click on the lightbulb icon on each line. That will show you the course notes for that section of the course. (Note - the links are to a site not run by Duolingo.)
