Ma van a szülinapom - Easy song + Vocab

Hey so this morning I went back to refresh one of the skills in my tree and it was just a dismal churn through, I think, 47 items of overcomplicated sentences, typos, broken English, and memorizing random preposition and verb choices. Maybe you're hacking your way through a tough stretch at the moment too. Let's have something a little lighter: A ridiculously fun little birthday song. After the link, I'll give a the lyrics, a word list, and some grammar explanations. I bet you'll remember the chorus by the time it's done (and perhaps a few ordinal numbers too).

Nincs semmi gondom, reggel van, az idő napos
Mindenki tudja, hogy én vagyok a szülinapos

Remek a hangulatom –tom –tom –torotom-tom
Ma van a szülinapom -pom-pom-poropom-pom

Az idő rohan, velem is egy év elszaladt
Ezért most látszik egy szarkaláb a szemem alatt

Fordítva élek, és nem leszek már agilisabb
Ki tudja miért annál inkább szenilisebb

Hol a torta?

Egy idő óta folyton elhagyom a szemüveget
nanana ... és nem tudom a szövegemet

Mostantól fáj már a derekam, és hull a hajam
Hangosan sikíts, ha azt akarod, hogy meghalljam!

-

gond - care, problem, worry or concern.
Nincs semmi gondom - "I don't have any problems"

idő - weather (also, "time" later in the song)
nap - sun (also "day" - no surprise the two words are related)
napos - sunny (typical formation of an adjective from a noun by adding +s / es / os / ös)

szülinap - birthday (informal - more formally, születésnap and that is literally birth+day)
szülinapom - my birthday
szülinapos - adjective form of birthday with the +os ending: "birthday-ish [person]"
Én vagyok a szülinapos - "I'm the birthday boy / birthday girl"

remek - fantastic
hangulat - mood

rohan - run really fast (horses can do this literally, time can do it figuratively)
velem - "with me" (This is a personal form of the -val / -vel ending which means "with" , not taught in this course. veled - with you, vele - with him/her, and so on.)
szalad - run (pretty much synonymous with fut)
elszaladt - run away or "passed quickly"
látszik - to appear, to show, to be visible
szarka - a kind of bird (a "magpie", apparently)
láb - leg or foot
szem - eye
szarkaláb a szemem alatt - what we'd call "crow's feet" under our eyes in English

fordít - to turn (transitive verb, usually - to turn something, not to turn around)
fordítva - participle form, "turned", "turned around" or "backward"

agilis - agile
agilisabb - more agile (I don't think Duo introduces the -abb / -ebb suffixes for comparatives, but they're easy; now you know)
szenilisebb - you can figure this out

lesz - "will be," one of the ways of making future tense
Nem leszek - I won't be...
annál = az + nál, "at that [thing]" for location, but "...than that" when used with comparatives
annál inkább - "more than that" or "rather than that"
nem agilisabb ... annál inkább szenilisebb - "not more agile ... actually rather more senile."

torta - cake
a torta egy hazugság - the cake is a lie (but in this song, it isn't)

óta - since (postposition)
tegnap óta - since yesterday
január óta - since January
egy idő óta - for some time

folyton - continually, all the time, nonstop
hagy - leave (something)
elhagy - abandon, leave something somewhere
szöveg - text
dalszöveg - "song text", lyrics

mostantól - nowadays or a little more accurately, "from now on"
fáj - hurt, it hurts
derék - (noun) waist or lower back (there's a homonym adjective derék which means valiant / honest / upstanding - fairytale princes are derék)
hull - to fall (more gently than "esik"). Snow does this.
haj - hair
hajam - my hair
hang - sound, voice
hangos - loud (another adjective derived by the +s ending: loud = "soundish")
hangosan - "loudly" adverb further derived by another ending onto the adjective.

sikít - to scream, shriek. People and animals do this, but the brakes in your car might, too.
sikíts! Imperative form: scream! (Not taught in Duo)

(meg)hall - to hear
meghalljam - imperative/subjunctive form, "I should hear"
azt akarod, hogy meghalljam - "you want me to hear" ("you want, that I should hear it")

(Note, however:
meghal - to die
azt akarod, hogy meghaljak - "you want me to die".)

Emlékszek erre a dalra - de ha valaki akar egy könnyebb tanulast a magyar nyelvel (mert elég pontatlan itt a Duolingon), akkor tudnak menni ezen az oldalon: http://egyszervolt.hu/. Vann benne játékok, mesék, versek, és több. Gyerekeknek csinálták, szovál sokkal egyszerűbb.

A videónak kb kétszer annyi megtekintése van, mint ahány ember Magyarországon él.
