The audio doesn't sound correct. It sounds like five patachim in a row - ha ha ah la ah I think it should be - he ha ah la ah. (segol then four patachim) Like hechatool - the cat. The 'hey' for
'the' gets a segol. At least that's what it sounded like when I was watching Dardasim.
If someone else hears it differently please let me know.
What you say is correct but incomplete. According to Ingeborg, “the” is הֶ before an unaccented ה or ע with kamatz
and always הֶ before חָ.
So the mountain is ha-har ההר but with the word “mountains”, because the accent shifts to the end, it is he-harim.
Things get complicated with “in a yard”, בְּחָצֵר versus “in the yard בֶּחָצֵר. They are both pronounced be-khatser and if there is no niqud, then only context will tell you whether or not it’s definite.
Don’t despair; these rules are normally only followed in writing. In normal speech, “the” is ha, “in a yard” is be-khatser and “in the yard” is ba-khatser.
