Adblock Plus and Duolingo
Anybody else use Adblock Plus and notice that on the Duolingo website the "ads blocked" number just keeps going up, like 10 blocked ads per second! What's going on? Anybody have any clues?
It worries me seeing the number just keep going up, on most websites it's just a static (or fairly static) number. But just a little while ago before I refreshed the page I had over 9000 (I'm not joking) blocked ads according to Ad Block Plus!
For me it looks like at the least where the mouse is located is being tracked. To test, go to the home page, put the mouse in white space, and the Adblock count seems stable, then move it over the icons and watch the counts increase. The page inspection suggest its may be getting sent to Amazon analytics, but I've not confirmed it. I've not tried anything else on the site, but anticipate it will be slightly more than the home page.
Hmm, seems to be something different for me, I tried refreshing the page while the mouse was out of the window and still within seconds I had hundreds of "blocked ads".
Thanks for the suggestion though!
That makes me feel a bit better, thanks! Hopefully, someone can confirm this. I'm not sure where to look.
Also Adblock prevents you from sending your Duolingo certificates to LinkedIn.
Thanks for the comments everyone! I appreciate it. I feel better about this weird ABP thing now.
Getting spammed by blocked requests from a mobileanalytics so badly that my browser is actually slowing down and becoming unresponsive.
I use ublock origins.. seen it going past 40k blocked requests while simply doing my daily lessons. This is getting rediculous, it needs to stop trying after a few dozen failed attempts for a few seconds at the very least. Not just carpet bomb the client into crashing when it doesnt work.
I use Adblock Plus and Ghostery, but I have never seen any counts on the Duolingo website. Neither on PC (Firefox browser for Linux) nor on Tablet or Smartphone (Firefox browser for Android). I do not use the Android App.
I don't think there can be any actual adverts. There isn't a lot of money to be made with adverts that no-one can see.
