Is the dydd necessary? If so, why?

Not according to the amazing S4C drama Un Bore Mercher - Keeping Faith for anyone who is watching it in English. It's filmed in Welsh and English language versions, and amazingly, Eve Myles (who plays Faith) didn't speak a word of Welsh before she took on the part. There's hope for all of us!

I want to find another Welsh show to watch! I'm going to look for this one. So far the only one I've found is 35 Days on Britbox. Im really enjoying it, especially when i understand the occasional word.

Think about it--we always say "day" in English.

Why do you sometimes use dydd and sometimes not. I.e. bore mercher or bore dydd mercher

No particular reason. As explained in the course notes, you can use either form.

To see how to find the course notes generally, go to https://forum.duolingo.com/topic/924/hot and read the discussion 'Course tips and notes'. The 'duome' link there is useful for browsing all the notes in one place. We recommend reading the notes for each new section as you start it.
