Or is it a more correct English translation to say "If you want to have (or get) a visa (for that country), you need to go to the embassy of that country.

"A visa" should be accepted. That is normal English.

Duo is also confused on this point. It very frequently requires "the" when no English speaker would use it.

    As a matter of translation, "to have" adds nothing to the meaning in English and could be left out.
