Le hasard ou l'hasard

I'm reading "L'etranger" and found this expression:

J'ai dit que c'etait le hasard.

My question is : Why not "J'ai dit que c'etait l'hasard". One says "l'hôpital" after all.

Thanks in advance,

Carlos

It's an aspirated h in hasard. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspirated_h

Brilliant. Thanks Elizabeth. In my French dictionary (Le Petit Robert) the aspirated h's are clearly marked with a special symbol. One never stops learning...

The words which have a "h" is only aspired when it is preceded by a word which finish with a vowel.
