Why can "I proceed" only be translated as "haladok" and not "én haladok"?


It should be accepted, although "én" is unnecessary here, except for emphasis.

Btw. the first thing that comes to my mind when hearing "Haladok." is "I am making progress.". So, it is that sense of the word.
To proceed, as in start or move on to the next step, there are other ways and words: "elkezdeni", "folytatni", "továbblépni", "továbbhaladni", etc. "Haladok" means rather an action already in progress.
