Привет! Как дела? I noticed in the first level that the Russian speaker was saying Anna quite often when she meant to say она. I really don't think this is a dialectical issue. I am guessing the speaker is American born. Anyone else notice? The first level test out section if you wish to check,it out.

May be you mean that the name Anna sounds nearly the same as Russian pronounce она (she). Although they have different stresses: Áнна and онá (as "o" is unstressed it is pronounced as "a"). But this name is never used in the meaning она (she).

No, she is mispronouncing so I hear Anna ..when she is pronouncing она. Did you listen? Are you experienced enough to be able to hear that easily. I have lost much of my fluency, but studied inMoscow for four months. I used to imitate Russians from Lenigrad, now St. Petersburg just to tease my Moscow friends. She is definitely mispronouncing it. However, maybe there is a dialectic am not familiar with? How would она be pronounced in Ukrainian? Does the stress shift?

The speaker is neither Russian nor American, it is a synthetic voice. For my taste. she pronounces она rather clearly and so as it normally sounds, but the way she says Анна is a bit confusing, as the syllable stress is rather sliding and she does not clearly pronounce the double consonant. I may agree that it might sound confusing for a beginner in Russian, but in normal speech these two words are easy to distinguish.

Anna sounds to me in the synthetic voice like Она. Very confusing. I put the two into Google translate and there they sound completely different, just as you describe. Guess I'll just have to remember when Duolingo wants Anna and when they want она. I've never liked the synthetic voice used on Duolingo Russian. It would be so much better if they just got a Russian or two to just say the words. It seems like volunteers could be found, but maybe more is involved that it seems.
