If 'ei' (his) is meant to have a soft mutation after it, why is 'glywed' not 'lwyed'? Confused...

Because the base form is "Clywed" not "Glywed" and if it was a woman "Gaeth Ceri ei chlywed" (Aspirate mutation of "C").
