"there are a lot of possibilities" considered wrong ? In English the correct form should be "a lot of" in positive sentences and "much" or "many" in questions and negative sentences.

Sorry, it most definitely should have been included. Many thanks it's been added.

Interesting, I've never heard that before. I'm sure "many" is equally acceptable in positive as negative sentences. "A lot" sounds rather more "slangy" to me.

"A lot of" is the translation of choice in DL Spanish for sentences such as Hay muchas posibilidades.

There are several possibilities has been marked incorrect?,,. Please explain...

We simply didn't have "several" as a choice but now that you reminded us we've added it. Thank you.

"many possibilities exist" is currently marked as incorrect, general strengthening on web.

Is this structure commonly used in English? If so, then we will accept it as an alternative. ^.^

I'd say so, although I'm sure you could find some US English speakers that would disagree with me ;-) I think this structure would be more frequent when coupled with an additional adjective - eg something like "many alternative possibilities exist" - but I think it's reasonably common, yes.

It sounds entirely reasonable to me: e.g. "What are you going to do about all this?" "Many possibilities exist, but I think on balance ... "

It's been added. Thank you. ^.^
