I can give an example for lazim: "Ödevimi yapmam lazim." means " I need to do my homework.

you can use both of them interchangeably for need to. 'zorunda olmak' is used for have to. also 'lazım' is arabic loanword and 'gerek' is turkic origin word for 'lazım'

lazım means " something which is needed". lazım is an adjective, gerekmek is the verb one.
