App will not register completed lessons
I'm using the iPhone app and finding that my completed lessons aren't "sticking." I will complete lessons, but when I close the app and come back, the lessons I completed will revert to incomplete. If I look on the web, they are also not synced. Very frustrating to lose progress. In one case, the skill is marked as complete, but when I go into it, two lessons have reverted to incomplete.
I have deleted and installed it again twice.
Anyone having similar problems?
Hi I also have the same problem with the German tree, using duolingo on an iPhone 4S iOS 7. Every time I reconnect to the internet all the offline progress gets erased. Happens with all the lesson for example Passive V. Politics. I've basically given up offline use at this point.
I have to add to this thread. I have just done a couple of lessons during my lunchbreak, connected via not the best EDGE connection. I completed both lessons, came back into my office and connected to wifi. Having checked the website, I see that neither lesson has synced and now my phone (iPhone iOS 7) says I haven't completed the lessons either. Frustrating to lose progress. I wonder if there is sensitivity to flaky internet connections, perhaps should be an option to not attempt connections over anything but decent 3/4G or wifi
I have the same problem, I finished a course on my iPhone in offline mode, logged into Duolingo on my computer, it showed that the course wasn't completed yet, so I logged in from my mobile application to update it. On the mobile app, at first it showed properly that the course was completed, but after a while it went online and it started showing that it was incomplete on the phone too.
For the most part, yes, I am doing them in offline mode. I typically do them in the subway (offline), and then finish them up at home or at lunch (online). The trouble with the lessons not registering as complete began pretty recently -- perhaps with the recent update.
Occupation is the one I finished and it showed up as completed (yellow), but when I opened it, it showed two lessons incomplete. I uninstalled and reinstalled the app, and now it shows the whole skill as incomplete and 2/4 lessons complete. Adverbs has also been a big problem. It pretty much won't save past 4/9 even though I've gotten to 7/9. Infinitive verbs similarly took a long time because it kept resetting. The trouble mostly began around infinitive verbs.
Thanks for the help. I love using the app but it's extremely frustrating to lose progress.
So incredibly stressful that I made a new email address and user name and started again. Since the new tree, finished lessons kept going to red/green for no earthly reason, just a program glitch. Some I did again, perfectly, five times before finally quitting and starting fresh. At that time, I had been using one tablet. Tonight, it has either failed to synch OR the glitch is back. If it is,I will ignore it and just learn the French, or I don't know. Duo never seems to answer the enquiries about this. Great app for learning, too.
I am having this problem too. I used to just switch Internet/network off, finish the unit, then reconnect when I had wifi/better network. The lessons used to upload just fine with this method. If I did the lessons online with an intermittent signal I would lose a few lessons here and there but even then it would upload a few. Any resolution to this problem? I still havent upgraded to iOS 7 yet if that provides any insight. Thanks!
I'm doing Spanish, in the offline mode as part of my morning commute, on an ipod running ios7. I'm currently working on food. I've completed the lesson 4 twice and lesson 5 once, and now it tells me i still haven't completed it and to go do it again. It's like it completes and gives me the lingots for completion of the series, but when the screen refreshes it forgets and says need to complete 4 & 5 again. (My online profile is currently wrong, as i have not been near wifi since i completed 4&5) I don't mind the practice and it seems to be accruing the points for it,but it seems like a bug.
I don't understand why this is so difficult to implement properly?! Surely when you work offline it should just save (locally) your progress, then when you next connect, it just updates your online account with your most recent progress! How can this be so difficult that it is still not fixed 5 months later? Should be about three lines of code!!
I have had exactly the same problem for about a year now. I managed to put up with this whilst learning Portuguese but now am about to stop using the app as it is so frustrating.
I use the app on the tube every morning and usually complete 2 -3 modules. When i go back online the progress is lost and I have to re-do the modules. I just can't take it any more!!!!!
Please fix or I will stop using this great app,
I’m having this problem now and these posts are from 4 years ago?! It won’t even let me get passed this one lesson. I complete 5/5 lessons and then I look and it reverts back to 1/5. I knew this app was too good to be true. I’m all the way at the bottom too. I guess I’ll try another app
You might want to try to “test out” of the ones that will not allow you to progress and move forward. I use this on the subway so I’m going in and out of service but it continues to do it at home where my WiFi and service is fine which was annoying. There was a new update yesterday, we’ll see how that works

Has anyone tried to do offline lessons after installing the most recent update, from within the last two days? It was released a couple days after I requested they look into this problem (and they had responded to my question; I had also showed them this thread). Is it working now? If not please try to be as specific as possible as to what is happening. Thanks and hopefully this will be resolved soon!
It really is time that Duo responded to this thread. I read an article about Duo that said some lessons, like adverbs, will go back to 'strengthen skills' purely because there are more things to learn. This does not explain many other lessons ungilding, again and again, immediately, to cover exactly the same work that has just been done perfectly.
Since I last re-installed the app it is behaving better but I am weeks behind. To cheer myself up, I am now doing Memrise, also. This has turned out well. The French is 'fuller' and it has cleared up some ambiguities. It does not foul up, but be warned, it insists on question marks, etc. After a few 'what the heck?!' this is now fine. It actually works well alongside Duo, if you keep the Memrise short enough.
I had the weirdest problem. yesterday I was playing with my duolingo and everything was perfect. all of my tree is gold and I finished another new lesson. this noon I open the app, and see that around 90% of my completed lesson are half completed, or not completed at all. has anybody had the same problem?
Happening to me. I used the app on android for 5 months without a problem. I'm now having to use the iPhone app and it keeps loosing progress when presumably going between online and offline modes. It is now impossible to make progress. YOU HAVE TO FIX THIS ISSUE OTHERWISE I WILL HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO STOP USING YPUR APP. If it isn't being fixed because of dev costs, then start charging for modules. I'd be quite happy to pay a few pounds for a course.
This is still happening. I use the app primarily on the subway where the wifi signal is intermittent. However, the app appears to be recognizing my progress and opening new labels. Later though, I reopen the app and my progress is gone, sometimes some, sometimes all. It's extremely frustrating. I enjoy this app but am close to giving up. Who else has found something they like that is less glitch?
I'm very troubled that there is no response to the problems stated in this thread. Im doing both Spanish and French and while Spanish is fine, I can do every French lesson perfectly and when I finish it shows it is not done. Even the first basic lesson Is undone, no matter how many times I do it, and I have finished 20 others and all are showing they are not completed, even though I complete them over and over. Why won't they fix this? It's so discouraging that I'm moved to dump the whole thing. Too bad because they have a good basic concept, but apparently the whole system is crashing? Perhaps just too many people are using it.
In case it helps, I finally finished the Spanish tree by "testing out" of all the levels that kept un-completing themselves. It's not supposed to work that way but I think the repetition actually helped me retain the material. Have now moved on to Memrise which has more advanced content and is also free (although there's a paid version). Interface is not as cute and it has its issues but I don't lose progress ever...or yet anyway :)
All the time! I am just about ready to quit this frustrating program. Compounded with the changes where you have to "buy" test outs and then they don't stick anyway. No more motivaton. I don't care about the stupid leagues. Losing interest fast. I have 5347 useless lingots that used to make me feel accomplished. My streak of 1198 days is about to go in the trash. If I quit, I'm not trying this program again. I doubt anyone monitors the forums so nobody cares. I used to recommend Duo to everyone but no longer.
