No priority for overdue words?

I am currently learning portuguese, and I have spotted a problem with Duolingo. There is the word "lata" meaning "can", which is overdue, and has been like that for over a month.

However, no matter how much I practice, that word never comes up and so it stays overdue. Could Duolingo fix this so that overdue words are practiced first, and then all the others?

Yes, I must say, I would like it if doing general practice didn't just go to the lowest lesson on the tree that isn't gold. It means you can not practice something further up for months.

You can however find the skill you want to practice, and click on "Strengthen". However, when you do that, you practice everything, not just the trickier words.

I do know that, but I'd prefer not to have to pick, especially with trees I have completed when it would mainly be picking at random. I'd rather the algorithm just be a bit smarter as it has information about how weak X word is that is probably more accurate than whatever feeling I have.
