Missing text

I am a touch typist. I wasn't looking at my hands as I typed on my keyboard on my Mac. I hit some combo of command keys that made the text go away. I can hear the woman saying things. I can see the lovely blank background. But the words have vanished. Any idea what I did and how to reverse it?
