How to Practice with Someone

Hey all, I had a question about a few posts I have seen on the Discussion tab. I have heard people ask for a "study buddy". How would this work through Duolingo? I understand you can communicate through the Discussion tab, but what is there a chat feature available, that is also safe? I would like a study buddy, as I am learning Spanish, and English is my main language. Thanks in advance! - SoccerStripes

The team talked about introducing 'groups' soon, but we do not know anything specific yet. For not it is just the activity streams, and they are publicly accessible (not just within Duo)

Most study buddies that I have seen pair up end up using sources outside of Duolingo to communicate, such as e-mail, Facebook, or Skype, as there is not currently any way to have a private one-on-one discussion with another person on Duolingo.

That being said, keep in mind that any conversation you have with strangers over the internet is never entirely safe, regardless of the way you go about it. If you do decide to go this route, don't use any of your personal information or any accounts that have personal information attached to it.

Also, don't download any files from the person you are chatting with, and ask that they give you URLs, not links. This is just a layer of safety from viruses and adware. ^^

Hi SoccerStripes,

I just wanted to add some information to clarify some possible misunderstandings. Duolingo's official guidelines say not to share your private contact information such as your telephone number, email address, home address, and skype etc.. Here is a link to the Guidelines so you can read them. http://www.duolingo.com/guidelines It's a good idea to be familiar with the expectations so that you don't accidentally violate them and get your account deactivated.

If someone makes a facebook group Duolingo isn't going to tell you not to join it ;) In addition, there are several groups where people meet to practice with one another, such as conversation exchange and italki. As Reinaw says, please practice safety.

I personally like to practice conversation with friends in my Activity stream.
