Thank you for this sentence -- much needed for many. (I express this sentiment to my aunts, who make wonderful plant-based versions of Greek classics.)
And if you want real vegan just ask for νηστήσιμα φαγητά which is food eaten during lent or to fast thus contains no animal products at all. These may or may not contain olive oil (other oils may be used) so let your aunts know. Always opt for olive oil btw. "Καλή όρεξη!" :-)
Great tip, thank you jaye16! I'm guessing this is why the bakeries seem to have vegan cookie options. It's not so difficult to be vegan in Greece - and the veggies (and olive oil) seem to taste better there too! But that could be my imagination.
You're very welcome. Very true it is easy to be vegan in Greece it's a bit of the old meeting the new. I think the food here is terrific and if you ever get to a farmer's market with local produce there's nothing like it. Enjoy.
Many thanks for this link. My mouth is already watering. I've bookmarked the link.
Jaye16, I am allergic to crustaceans and have a hard time expressing this every year. I eat seafood "nothing with a shell". Can you help me with this one...EpiPen autoinjectors are expensive. Lol
There are different words for "crustaceans" in Greek.
καρκινοειδή, οστρακόδερο, μαλακόστρακο<
Hope these help you.
Sorry a mix up. I'll edit it. Thanks for the heads up.
I have one question, Θέλω, Θ at the begining of the sentence sounds like ts, was that a mistake?
Θ normally sounds like th in thing. Everything sounds fine for me in audio, but if it sounds odd, it's probably an audio glitch that we (the moderators and contributors) can't fix. :/ We can only disable it, if we spot a glitch.
