Hebrew

There really needs to be a Hebrew course in duolingo!!! It's such an amazing language that needs to be spoken more often.

Hi, if enough people who are fluent in Hebrew and English apply, then it will be created through the incubator.

  • After there are enough contributors, they will make an English for Hebrew speakers course and, then, soon after that, they will make the reverse of that course so that English speakers can learn Hebrew.

  • Note: The best way to bring a course to Duolingo is ask any bilingual people you know to apply.

  • Here's the main incubator page: http://incubator.duolingo.com/, in case you want to look around in there or apply to contribute, if you're bilingual.

  • This post by I_AM_THE_DOCTOR explains how to navigate the incubator http://www.duolingo.com/comment/1595364.

  • Also check out the "New User FAQ" (http://www.duolingo.com/comment/1426103), it talks more in depth about adding new languages at section 4.

If you have any more questions, try the "A Guide to Duolingo Guides" series (http://www.duolingo.com/comment/1278938). It covers most aspects related to the use of the site.

I think someone here might have a document where they keep these replies. I'm not naming names, though. ;)

of course I do. People never search the discussion (and it is not well organized) so I feel like a broken record :D lol

So does that mean that since there is an English course for people who speak Chinese there will soon be a course for English speakers to learn Chinese?

Yes, eventually. Currently, the Duolingo team is working on an interface to give the course contributors more control over various aspects of their course. That will probably be done in about 3-4 weeks. Then it will probably take another month or two for the course contributors to finish the course, maybe more.

Edit: Also see bullet point three and four in the third link in FrankySka's post.

Hi,

New courses are added by the community via the language incubator: http://incubator.duolingo.com. Currently, the team is adding roughly one new course per week to the incubator. So for some courses it will take some time until the get rolled out, while others are already there.

Here is how you can help: If you are bilingual you can apply to the incubator: http://incubator.duolingo.com/apply. Write a short (not more than a few paragraphs – there is a character limit) statement that explains why you want to contribute in BOTH languages. If you are not bilingual yourself, but know people who are you can ask them to apply as well.
